DNV KEMA-sponsored research published in IEEE journal

Modeling of Replacement Alternatives for Power Transformer Populations published in IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, Volume 27, No. 2, April 2012.

Research guided and sponsored by DNV KEMA appears in the current edition of IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery (Vol. 27, No. 2, April 2012). The article "Modeling of Replacement Alternatives for Power Transformer Populations" discusses the outcome of the development of a model that makes it possible to maximize transformer lifetime utilization and postpone replacement. In particular, the model deals with the life expectancies of individual components and then calculates parameters related to a population of assets as a whole.

KEMA Nederland, along with Dutch distribution utilities Enexis and Stedin, sponsored the research project, which was part of the PhD thesis by Arjan van Schijndel. The project was under the supervision of DNV KEMA Principal Consultant Jos Wetzer (Arnhem), who held a part-time professor appointment at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Power Engineering Group of the Electrical Engineering Department between 2004 and 2007.

Another part of van Schijndel's research was published in IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, and presented at various conferences.

The article's publication is a recent result of the ongoing relationship between DNV KEMA and the Eindhoven University of Technology. In addition to the part-time professor appointments of Fred Steennis and René Smeets (both of Arnhem), PhD projects in collaboration with the University have formed the basis of the KEMA Smart Cable Guard services.
