Arnhem / Nijkerk, 18 november 2010 – De procesindustrie in Nederland kan jaarlijks twee keer zoveel energie besparen als nu het geval is. Dit zou een verdubbeling van de huidige energiebesparing in die sector betekenen van de huidige 1% per jaar tot 2% per jaar. Daarmee zou de sector voldoen aan de energiebesparingdoelstelling die is overeengekomen met de Nederlandse overheid om in 2020 30% minder energie te gebruiken dan in 2000. Voorwaarde is wel dat een drastische verandering van de werkwijze in de procesindustrie ten aanzien van energie-innovatie wordt doorgevoerd. Dit blijkt uit een onderzoek van 15 bedrijven uit de industrieketen zelf, onder leiding van energiekennisbedrijf KEMA. Het onderzoek is geïnitieerd door NAP, het netwerk van de Nederlandse Procesindustrie. De procesindustrie neemt circa een kwart van het totale energieverbruik in Nederland voor haar rekening.

In May 2008, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) awarded KEMA with a consulting service contract on the quality assurance of key equipment for the world record breaking Xiang-Shang 800 kV HVDC transmission project. Up to now, the world largest 800kV and 600kV converter transformers as well as one part of 6 inches thyristor valves have been successfully type tested. With a number of even more challenging big HVDC transmission projects planned in the coming years, SGCC recognises the importance of quality assurance work and therefore awarded KEMA for a training course on quality assurance of key HVDC equipment for SGCC staff. The training course was delivered successfully in December 2008 at KEMA office in Arnhem.

KEMA has opened a testing laboratory in Wenzhou in the Chinese province of Zhejiang. The lab was acquired from Chint, China’s largest manufacturer of electric components. This makes KEMA the first foreign enterprise with an independent test lab for industrial electric components in China. This local lab will speed up access to the global market for both Chinese and foreign companies with a manufacturing plant in China.

Energy meter manufacturers wishing to sell their products in Europe can now turn to KEMA for assistance. According to the new European directive on measurement instruments, MID, instrument testing is no longer reserved to national bodies. KEMA is one of the Notified Bodies authorized to grant certificates that are valid for all of Europe.

In October KEMA’s test lab in Guangzhou obtained its laboratory accreditation in the IECEE conformity assessment scheme for testing household appliances and lighting equipment. Furthermore KEMA’s Hong Kong lab has expanded its scope. The locomotives that will be moving goods wagons on the Betuwe line from 1 January 2007 will be equipped with the new European ETCS safety system. KEMA Rail Transport Certification (RTC) subjected the first two converted locomotives to a rigorous test program. The two locomotives are officially handed over by the manufacturer Vossloh and the supplier of the safety equipment Alstom on 7 December to the owner, Angel Train lease company.

Since May 2006, a regulation has been in force for the Belgian market in which the additional requirements for child-appealing luminaries – specified in the IEC/EN 60598-2-10 standard – are declared to also be applicable for seasonal portable decorative lighting fixtures. With this, Belgium deviates from the European standard.

With the deadline approaching, KEMA has developed a scanning service to provide companies with feedback on the extent to which their processes are IPPC-compliant. The new IPPC Scan will also shed light on the cost-effectiveness of different routes.
