Dynamics
Various national and international gas flows come together in the Dutch gas transport network. Very high gas flows are recorded, particularly during the winter season, at a pressure of more than 60 bar. Thorough knowledge of quantity measurements under high pressure and of the dynamic behavior of gas flows in the transport network is combined within the Gas dynamics field of expertise.
DNV KEMA's expertise is in the field of natural gas flow (dynamics) and flow acoustics (noise, vibration & pulsation), while the services offered range from consulting services to practical testing & calibration. Accurate measurement of flow/ energy of natural gas is very important to all shippers trading in gas and customers as measurement errors are directly linked to financial errors. Acoustic phenomena in gas transport systems are also directly influencing the quality of measurement and can result - in case of bad design practices- to unwanted dynamic behavior of piping and connections which influences the overall integrity of the gas installation.
Flow acoustics
DNV KEMA's Flow Acoustics (noise, vibrations & pulsations) team is deeply involved in issues related to license-to-operate of gas companies delivering noise measurements and noise contour calculations especially for gas stations and installations. Moreover our vibration specialists play a key role in analyzing and diagnosing the behavior of rotating equipment. The basic toolbox is not only limited to vibration, but the key added value of the services offered are in linking the compressor behavior to other process variables within the machine or the process gas to be compressed.
Acoustic behavior inside gas piping can also seriously damage the measurements or the integrity of piping within gas stations. DNV KEMA has unique knowledge about the origin of flow induced pulsations in piping systems and can be very helpful in the design stage of the stations to do pulsation analysis. Also in cases the pulsation problems occur our specialists can perform measurements, analyze and solve the acoustic issues.
